Quality Truck Care Center is a Family-owned business in The Fox Valley since 1986! We represent Western Star, and Autocar. Certified in Detroit, Cummins, CAT engines, Allison and Detroit Transmissions and Axles.

Position Summary:

A mechanic who directs the service operation and personnel during periods of the Service Manager’s absence, or during second shift.  Must be able to lead and supervise personnel.  Spends 70% or more of work time on billable repairs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answers telephone calls and pages for department.

  • Prioritizes and schedules service work.

  • Opens repair orders.  Closes repair orders paid with cash (cash sales).

  • Coordinates and oversees technicians.  Inspects all completed work.  Possesses the skills and abilities of technicians in lower skill levels and assists them in completing repair assignments, as needed. 

  • Ensures that technicians observe applicable policies and procedures for repairs.

  • Wears proper personal protective equipment to protect you from injury.

  • Prepares estimates for repairs, with Service Manager’s approval.

  • Advises customers about necessary repairs.

  • Communicates status of repair work to customers.

  • Manages billable hours of technicians.

  • Works with little to no supervision.

  • Minimizes comebacks by conducting spot-checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.

  • Investigates and resolves customer quality complaints.

  • Monitors technician performance and reports concerns to the Service Manager.

  • Inspects pertinent repair orders for proper documentation and warranty procedures.

  • Attends monthly shop meetings.

  • Sells parts in accordance with Parts Department policies and procedures.

  • Completes in-house training requirements.

Job requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid insurable Driver License (CDL is a bonus)

  • Supervisory experience or training.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with customers and subordinates.

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy/medium duty truck repair.

  • Organizational skills.

  • See technician classifications for specific technical qualifications.

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk up and down one full flight of stairs to reach office areas, storage rooms and meeting rooms

Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to manipulate

Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull

Ability to communicate with others verbally (telephone and in person) and in written communication methods (handwritten and electronic correspondence)

Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist and carry

Ability to drive an automobile

 

Work Environment:

The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The employee is exposed to dirt, dust and fumes from the shop, as well as temperature changes due to the weather.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
